EU Parliament Rejects Simplification of Pig Meat Inspections
EU - Eurogroup for Animals welcomes the adoption by the European Parliament’s Environment Committee of a motion for a resolution rejecting the European Commission’s draft regulation to simplify pig meat inspections. However, Eurogroup reports that it is dissappointed with the compromise agreed last night between the European Commission, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament on the Common Agricultural Policy reform which will have a direct impact on animal welfare.
The agreement allows money to be transferred from rural development to direct payments which will inevitably lead to less rural development funds and as a consequence less money available for animal welfare payments.
