OIE Reports Three New ASF Outbreaks

RUSSIA - Dr Nicolay Vlasov, CVO of Veterinary services in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, has reported three new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in Krasnodarskiy Kray, Astrakhanskaya Oblast and Stavropol'skiy Kray.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 75 yesterday, 12 January. According to the report, the affected population comprises wild boars and pigs.

A total of 34,759 pigs were found susceptible to the outbreak, out of which 269 cases were reported. A total of 199 deaths were observed, and the remaining 34,560 were destroyed.

In the case of wild boars, 35 animals showed signs of susceptibility, out of which one case was reported. No deaths were recorded. The one affected animal was destroyed.

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive and is under investigation.
