Kendall calls for bold moves
UK - NFU President Peter Kendall today issued a rallying call to everyone involved with the NFU to take up the challenge of being bolder in getting its key messages across.
In his closing speech to this year’s NFU Conference, Mr Kendall said: “‘Farming Matters’ is a theme that will run through all our work – we must all get involved and work harder than ever to get the message across to opinion formers and consumers alike.
“We must be bolder at getting our messages across to the farming industry. I believe we have moved forward a lot with our communications and our website is getting greater and greater use.”
Mr Kendall said one of the key challenges for the next year was making sure the NFU engaged with its younger members.
“I don’t want NFU information sitting on dad’s desk while we miss the next generation, which is the future of our industry.
“This vital next generation connection is why we held our seminar jointly with the Young Farmers Clubs yesterday – to look at better ways of engaging this future generation.”
He also paid tribute to the hard work done by the NFU’s branch offices, and urged everyone involved to do all they could to promote the NFU in the run-up to its 100th anniversary.
“We have a great opportunity; and great messages to go into 2008,” he said.
“In the months ahead please take up the challenge. Become ambassadors, become salesmen for farming and the NFU. Commend the food and farming year as a way to help get reconnected with schools and our future customers.”
