Understand your national regulations
These may include specific regulations, approved codes of practice
(ACOPs), industry standards, local authority by laws, duties of care, etc.
Each country has its own health and safety regulations and how they
apply to pig farmers can depend on a number of variables. It is therefore not
appropriate here to cite specific regulations and ACOPs etc. However, Fig.17-3
lists the topics that may be applicable to your pig farm and that are likely to
be covered by regulations in most countries. The list is by no means complete
and you should use it as a guide to compile your own comprehensive register.
For your management system to be effective you must be aware of the regulations
etc., know how they apply to you and what you must do to comply with them. You
may need outside help with this.
