Brazil pork exports soar - ABPA
Export boom driven by Asia and Latin America lifts Q1 performanceBrazilian pork exports surged in March, climbing 26.6% year-on-year to 256.4 million pounds (116,300 metric tons), according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). Foreign sales brought in $278 million, up 44.2% from the same month in 2024.
The strong performance capped a solid first quarter. From January through March 2025, Brazil exported 742.6 million pounds (336,800 metric tons) of pork—16.4% more than the same period last year. Export revenues totalled $789 million, a 32% increase on Q1 2024.
Asian demand fuels growth
The Philippines led the way in March, importing 59,500 pounds (27,000 metric tons)—an 85% jump year-on-year. Japan and Hong Kong also posted big gains, with volumes up 83.4% and 68.2% respectively. Exports to Argentina exploded by 504%, while Liberia recorded a staggering 710.2% increase.
Other notable destinations included:
- China: 31,100 lbs (14,100 tons), down 27.3%
- Hong Kong: 27,600 lbs (12,500 tons), up 68.2%
- Japan: 21,600 lbs (9,800 tons), up 83.4%
- Chile: 18,500 lbs (8,400 tons), up 12.7%
- Singapore: 13,200 lbs (6,000 tons), up 23.6%
- Uruguay: 11,500 lbs (5,200 tons), up 55.9%
- Mexico: 10,100 lbs (4,600 tons), newly opened market
Key regions powering exports
Santa Catarina retained its top spot among exporting states with 129,000 pounds (58,500 tons) shipped, an 8.6% rise from the previous year. Other strong performers included:
- Rio Grande do Sul: 55,800 lbs (25,300 tons), up 35.2%
- Paraná: 42,800 lbs (19,400 tons), up 90.8%
- Minas Gerais: 6,200 lbs (2,800 tons), up 81.7%
- Mato Grosso: 6,600 lbs (3,000 tons), up 25.7%
“Almost all pork-importing markets saw double-digit growth in March,” said ABPA president Ricardo Santin. “This reflects the sector’s strength in diversifying destinations, reinforcing optimistic projections for 2025.”
