Australian pork consumption set to hit record high in 2025 - USDA FAS
Easing cost pressures and steady demand fuel market growth

By: Australia’s appetite for pork is on the rise, with consumption forecast to reach a record 660,000 metric tons (carcass weight equivalent) in 2025—up from an estimated 649,000 MT in 2024, according to the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service.
The increase is driven primarily by population growth, as per capita consumption has remained relatively stable over the past decade. While year-to-year shifts are influenced by factors like meat prices, cost-of-living pressures, and pandemic-related disruptions, pork has consistently held its ground on Aussie dinner plates.
An easing of cost-of-living pressures is expected to support consumption further in 2025. While minor avian influenza outbreaks have occurred over the past year, they’ve had little impact on poultry production. However, any major future disruptions to chicken supply could give pork an additional boost.
So far, no major challenges are on the horizon that would derail the country’s pork consumption growth.
