Brazilian pork exports reached a record high in February, totalling 114.4 thousand tonnes, according to a recent market report by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).

This represents a 17% increase compared to the same month in 2024, when exports stood at 97.8 thousand tonnes—marking the best performance ever recorded for the month of February.

In terms of revenue, exports brought in US$272.9 million in February 2025, a significant rise of 32.6% from the US$205.7 million generated in February 2024.

For the first two months of 2025 combined, export volumes rose by 11.6%, reaching 220.4 thousand tonnes compared to 197.5 thousand tonnes during the same period last year. Revenue for the same period grew by 26.2%, totalling US$510.9 million, up from US$404.8 million.

The Philippines remained the leading export destination in February, importing 23 thousand tonnes—an increase of 72% year-on-year. China followed with 19.4 thousand tonnes (a decline of 26.2%), then Hong Kong with 13.4 thousand tonnes (+49.8%), Japan with 9 thousand tonnes (+61.8%), and Chile with 8.3 thousand tonnes (-0.2%). Other notable markets included Singapore (6.5 thousand tonnes, +3.6%), Argentina (4.8 thousand tonnes, +313.1%), Uruguay (3.6 thousand tonnes, +13.1%), Côte d’Ivoire (3.1 thousand tonnes, +58.4%), and Vietnam (3 thousand tonnes, +64.8%).

“This month we also saw Mexico gain great relevance, with more than 2 thousand tonnes exported, as a direct result of the renewal of the Mexican food security programme," said Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.

"Alongside strong demand from the Philippines, Japan, and other countries in Asia, Africa and the Americas, we expect positive results throughout the year," Santin added.

Santa Catarina maintained its position as Brazil’s top pork-exporting state, shipping 61.8 thousand tonnes in February—a 14.2% increase on the previous year. It was followed by Rio Grande do Sul (23.9 thousand tonnes, +13.8%), Paraná (17.9 thousand tonnes, +48.1%), Minas Gerais (2.3 thousand tonnes, +43.9%), and Mato Grosso (2.8 thousand tonnes, +21%).
