Pork exports from Germany increased again in 2024 for the first time in a long time, according to German pig association ISN

After several years of decline, pork exports from Germany increased slightly last year. According to the database of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), a total of 1.265 million tons of fresh, chilled or frozen pork without slaughter products were exported in 2024; this was 45,000 tons or 3.7% more than in 2023. However, revenues only rose by 1.0% to 3.80 billion euros. In the record year 2019, more than 1.80 million tons of fresh, chilled or frozen pork were marketed abroad for 4.51 billion euros.

Less pork imported

On the import side, the decline, which has also been observed for years, continued. The corresponding German pork imports amounted to 605,000 tons in 2024, which was below the previous year's quantity by around 50,000 tons or 7.6%.

Import expenditure decreased by 10.9% to around EUR 1.60 billion. In 2019, 884,000 tons of fresh, chilled or frozen pork had been purchased from abroad for 1.67 billion euros.

Due to the opposite development, Germany's surplus in foreign trade in pork increased by 11.8% last year to around 2.21 billion euros.
