Sweden introduces new ASF rules, guidelines
New infection zones have been established for wild boarAccording to a November 30 update from the region of Västmanland in Sweden, new guidelines and restrictions are being reduced following the confirmation of cases of African swine fever (ASF) in the region.
The Swedish Agency for Agriculture (SWA), the notice said, has introduced an infected zone with rules and guidelines that must be followed to prevent the spread of infection. SWA, which is responsible for issuing guidelines and restrictions regarding ASF, has introduced an infection zone that is based on the location where infected wild boars were found.
As of November 30, the infected zone is smaller than it was before, as it now consists of a core area and an outer area where there are different restrictions. It is the enclosed area that is called the 'core area'.
In the core area, the purpose of the restrictions is to limit the spread the infection further. The restrictions also aim to leave wild boars undisturbed so that they do not move out of the zone and spread infection further.
In the outer area, the aim is to leave the wild boar undisturbed as infection-prevention culling is taking place there.
