New hydrolysed yeast provides alternative feed source
Lallemand Animal Nutrition claims the product offers several benefitsLallemand Animal Nutrition launched a new hydrolysed yeast product, Yela Prosecure, which could be used as an alternative feed source. The company says the product is highly digestible and contains functional nutrients that support animal performance, digestive care and feed palatability while contributing to the feed protein balance.
Mark McFarland, feed additive product manager at Lallemand Animal Nutrition, says the industry is seeing increasing pressure on the supply of feed materials. This is due to the global increase in animal production, competition between food and feed in terms of edible protein, supply chain challenges, price volatility, as well as increasing demand for more sustainable food.
“As a result, the development of new functional feed ingredients is a growing trend that can help address some of these concerns," said McFarland, adding that he sees yeast-based ingredients as promising new solutions.
The company conducted a commercial trial and claims that piglets fed diets where soybean meal was partially replaced with their product had a 17% increase in body weight at 18 days post-weaning. McFarland said the results also indicate an improvement in average daily feed intake and average daily live weight gain. He added that the feed conversion ratio decreased 15%.
