EU pig prices: scarce supply boosts hog prices this week
Pig prices are developing positively for many EU markets this week, much to the relief of producers. The German, Dutch and Belgian quotations set the bar for the rest of the EU market participants with a 6 cent price improvement. Lower slaughter numbers and weights are narrowing supply which is pushing prices up slowly.
Austria noted a 5 cent increase this week and due to low numbers of piglets, their market analysts are predicting continued under-supply.
The Spanish price improved by 4 cents following a slow rise in quotations over the last few weeks. Carcass weights dropped significantly indicating competition for carcasses.
