According to reports by Agra Europe and ISN, the outbreak occurred in an 8,000 head swine herd who have recently supplied pigs to a number of other companies. The Polish veterinary authority have confirmed that the affected farm is located in Bielsk Podlaskie - about 50km from the border with Belarus.

This outbreak is only the third to occur in a domestic pig population in 2019, though outbreaks in wild boar have been increasing in recent months

This outbreak is only the third to occur in a domestic pig population in 2019, though outbreaks in wild boar have been increasing in recent months. In May, 73 cases of ASF in wild boar were reported by the Polish veterinary authorities. The boars were located at the northern border with Kaliningrad, Russia, and along the eastern border with Ukraine.

Authorities are urging all European producers to be vigilant when it comes to biosecurity and the movement of pigs.
