Pig Respiratory Disease Treatment Safe Against Antibiotic Resistance Development

20 October 2016, at 12:00am

GLOBAL - Antibiotic resistance is of growing concern to both human and animal health. With this in mind, Merial has determined the minimum inhibitory concentrations of gamithromycin against swine food-borne pathogens.

Gamithromycin is the active ingredient in ZACTRAN which is used to treat swine respiratory diseases.

A study found that there is no specific resistance mechanism to gamithromycin compared to other antibiotics which were tested in the study.

Gamithromycin, and therefore ZACTRAN, has no specific liabilities in resistance development.
