The outbreak, in Ségou, affected the local swine breed, all sex and ages mixed.

There were 130 cases in total, out of a susceptible population of 1003 pigs.

The outbreaks were attributed to introduction of new live animals, illegal movement of animals, contact with infected animals at grazing or watering, and swill feeding.

Movement controls, surveillance, quarantines and zoning are being used to keep the outbreak in check.
