The latest figures show the number being sent to the bureau is falling so the decision has been taken to close the bureau service from November 1 this year.

Those who are still sending assessments to the bureau need to start moving over either to the app or the online portal to be ready for the change.

Health and welfare projects manager Katja Stoddart said: “For vets and producers to get the most out of a Real Welfare visit, it is important for both to review the results.

“If the app is being used this becomes even easier as if offers immediate feedback and a visual representation for discussion.

“It is extremely important for both producers and vets and can highlight where improvements can be made.

"Uptake of the app has been steady but we still have some way to go and I would encourage all vets to download it.”

Staff will be on hand for some time after the bureau closes to act as a helpline for those using the portal or the app but this will be for a limited time.

The app is available free for both Android and I-phone.
