NETHERLANDS - Joost Sliepenbeek has been appointed chief financial officer of Vion Food from 1 May.He takes over from Jacques Straathof, who will concentrate on a number of strategic business improvement projects, and also ensure a smooth hand-over to his successor.
Mr Sliepenbeek previously worked at the Van Gansewinkel Group.
Mr Sliepenbeek started his career at De Vleeschmeesters (which was later acquired by Vion Food), and worked for some time at the large-scale consumer business of Ahold, which was subsequently incorporated into Deli XL. During his career he has held various managerial functions within Ahold, and was CFO at a number of businesses including Albert Heijn, Hema and C1000.
“Joost Sliepenbeek, with whom I have successfully cooperated at various companies, will not only bring his proven professional expertise as CFO, but he will also add his valuable experience within the retail and food sectors,” said Tom Heidman, interim CEO of Vion.
“His experience within large retail organisations, combined with his knowledge of the financial sector, is vital for the challenges facing our busines. Furthermore, during the years I have worked with Joost I have been impressed by his ability to build and motivate teams.”
The appointment of Joost Sliepenbeek as its new CFO is another step in the development of a new management team at Vion Food.
The composition of the Supervisory Board had already been changed to fit in with new circumstances during 2014, which saw the arrival of five new board members.
Under the leadership of interim CEO Tom Heidman, work continues to build strong foundations in order to allow a new CEO to fully concentrate on leading the business and consolidating the position of Vion Food as market leader.
The appointment of Mr Sliepenbeek fits within this development.
“We are grateful to Jacques for his work as CFO and his commitment last year, during which important steps were taken for Vion Food's future, and during which Jacques made a strong contribution to the improved results,” said Sipko Schat, Chair of Supervisory Board.
"Of course we wish both of them every success in their new challenges."
