ANALYSIS - While Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDv), swine influenza, Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) and trichomoniasis have had a dramatic economic impact on the food supply, diagnostics is the crucial element to helping producers manage through these diseases, writes Sarah Mikesell, ThePigSite senior editor.

Jeff Baxter, global senior product manager with Thermo Fisher Scientific, explains how diagnostics can work with biosecurity and prevention and treatment options to improve herd health and performance.

On a global basis, Europe has a lot of country programs in place to help with the control and management of diseases, but Baxter said in strong agriculture-based countries like Latin American, Australia and New Zealand the opportunity for diagnostics to make a impact is even greater because of the potential economic benefit to producers.
