African Swine Fever Reported in Lithuania
LITHUANIA - There has been one new outbreak of African Swine Fever confirmed in the Alytus region of Lithuania.One wild boar on 14 October and four wild boars on 15 October were found dead in the same forest where on 30 September a positive hunted wild boar was detected, in the area under restrictions established in accordance with the Annex to Commission Implementing Decision 2014/178/EU.
Samples for ASF testing were collected from the wild boars and sent to the National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute within the framework of the national ASF surveillance programme. The results of real-time PCR tests performed on 15 October 2014 were positive for ASF.
The source of the outbreak is still unknown.
