The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received a follow up report on Thursday, 18 September, stating that the affected population comprises wild boar.

According to the report, one wild boar was found dead.

The presence of African swine fever virus in this wild boar was confirmed (real-time PCR) by the European Union Reference Laboratory for African swine fever in Spain.

With regards to this wild boar case, measures according to Article 15 of the Council Directive 2002/60/EC have been implemented.

Control of wildlife reservoirs, screening and zoning are some of the control measures applied to contain the situation.

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
