PRRS Virus Found at Another Swiss Pig Farm

SWITZERLAND - Pigs at a farm in Altdorf have tested positive for the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) virus.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 2 dated 31 March to the World Organisation for Animal Health.

Fifteen pigs out of a herd of 900 at a farm in Altdorf in canton Uri tested positive for the PRRS virus on 28 March. The farm received pigs from the breeding farm in Lucerne where the first infection was found.

The usual control measure are being applied: stamping out, screening and disinfection of infected premises. Vaccination is prohibited and affected animals are not being treated.
