No Further Classical Swine Fever Outbreaks in Colombia
COLOMBIA - The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) reports that there have been no further outbreaks of classical swine fever, also commonly known as hog cholera, in the country.According to follow-up report no. 3 sent to the OIE by the Colombian veterinary authorities, in September, the outbreak and the farms in the vicinity were completely depopulated with a total of 82 animals slaughtered although no other animals were found sick.
The depopulation was carried out in order to remove in-contact animals both from the outbreak and from the farms in the vicinity.
It has been confirmed, through virological surveillance, that the virus was not present in none of the animals slaughtered, with PCR results negative for the detection of classical swine fever virus RNA.
In October, cleaning and disinfection activities and epidemiological surveillance continue.
