Flood-hit Czech Farmers Receive Government Memorandum
CZECH REPUBLIC – Czech farmers hit by the disastrous June floods have received a government memorandum telling them they can seek compensation, to be issued from the European Commission.The Office of the Ministry of Agriculture has been authorised at distributing 685 million crowns, to be allocated for financial assistance for rebuilding agricultural businesses.
Extensive damage was felt across livestock and arable farms with crop damage, livestock deaths and feed and equipment supplies being destroyed, with calculations estimating damage at 3.28 billion crowns.
Agriculture Minister, Miroslav Toman, said the issue has a priority for him since he took office in July.
But, he added that the Commission is still to decide the official protocol for the funding for fisheries and forestry. "The European Commission is still discussing our proposals for compensation for damages caused by floods in forests and fishers,” said Minister Toman.
