OIE: Further Classical Swine Fever Outbreaks in Latvia

LATVIA - The Latvian veterinary authorities have reported six new outbreaks of classical swine fever, also commonly known as hog cholera, in Dagda county, Zilupes county and Kraslavas county.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report No. 2 on 17 December 2012. According to the report, the outbreak has affected wild boar (Sus scrofa) populations.

A total of nine cases were recorded. The nine affected animals were destroyed.

The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.

According to the OIE, on 21 November 2012, following the CVO order a provisionally infected area where all 9 PCR positive wild boars were hunted was established. Totally 20 wild boars were detected seropositive with Ab ELISA test.
