The Iberian Pig Interprofessinal Association has already completed a similar study but with no conclusive findings. Reports delving into the issue of labelling are considered important due to the effect of labelling on consumer choices.

The Iberian sector has spent several months locked in disputes following changes made by the Quality Standards Board regarding regulation RD 1469/2007. The SAPB are aware of these impacts of incorrect labelling. They say that Iberian ham is a higher quality product and should be labelled as such. Presently, this is not the case.

The SAPB intends to complete the report quickly so appropriate action can be requested form the authorities so Iberian ham can be marketed properly.
