Supply and demand are kept in balance in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria. As a result, the prices remain unchanged in those countries.

Although there are complaints from the slaughter companies and the meat merchants about insufficient margins, the low quantities of pigs on offer can be placed completely and promptly.

In France, low quantities on offer even made the prices go up further by another +3 cents.

Totally untypical for this time of the year, the prices are also increasing in Spain. The quotation there went up by a converted +2 cents per kg slaughter weight this week. The slaughter companies’ demand endures with unbroken force, a fact which can also be drawn from the low slaughter weights of the live pigs. Those currently fall below the past years’ weights by about 4 kg in Spain.

Trend for the German market: To some extent, sales problems are caused in the meat business by the comparatively high price level. Nevertheless, the low quantities of mature pigs for slaughter on offer do not seem to be really burdensome. The prices are therefore expected to remain steady for the week of slaughter to come.
