Cost of Production of Chickens, Pigs Reach Record Highs in August
BRAZIL - The indexes of production costs of broilers and pigs, calculated by Embrapa Swine and Poultry agricultural research company under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, reached record highs in August of 183.70 and 183.09 points, respectively.
The rise in August was 12.73 per cent. The index has accumulated 37.17 per cent in 2012 and 35.02 per cent in the last 12 months.
The nutrition of chickens, which composed 74.35 per cent of the index last month rose by 12.42 per cent in August and reached 31.60 per cent in the year, pressured by changes in the prices of corn and soybean meal.
Production costs for pigs have been high since May.In August, the index climbed 10.61 per cent. For the year, costs increased by 27.98 per cent, and 28.96 per cent in the last 12 months. Again, the prices of inputs that make up the diet of the animals were the main cause of the increase.
