Russian Authority Clamps Down on ASF

RUSSIA - Following recent outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the regions of Tver and Volgagrad, restrictions have been announced to try to stop the disease spreading further.

As a result of the very serious situation with the spread of ASF in the Volgograd region, Acting Governor of the Volgograd Region, Vasily Galushkin, has announced special measures to restrict pig movements in the region, according to Russia’s veterinary authority, Rosselkhoznadzor.

Last week, the same agency banned the transportation of hogs, wild boars and their meat in the Tver region because of recent ASF outbreaks, reports Moscow Times.

A ban on wild boar hunting in the region from the beginning of August in reported to be under consideration.
