At the end of a second day of the EPP Congress in the Lithuanian capital city, Erik Thijssen of the Netherlands was unanimously re-elected as President of the EPP for another period of three years.

Vice-president, Franz Meyer zu Holte of Germany is retiring, and the meeting elected Jürgen Winkelmann, also from Germany, as the new Vice-president.

In a warm speech, Mr Thijssen thanked Mr Meyer zu Holte for his untiring efforts in the name of EPP and particularly as Vice-president over the last three years, and added that the Board has nominated the outgoing Vice-president as an honorary EPP member.

Looking forward to next year, it was announced that Denmark is to host the 2013 EPP Congress. Hans Aarenstrup, the president of the Danish branch of EPP, said the meeting will be held at the hotel and conference centre in Vingsted, near to the airport of Billund, on 29 to 31 May 2013. He invited delegates to suggest topics they would like to discuss or to learn more about in the next few weeks before the programme is finalised.

Further details will be communicated to EPP members as they become available or click here for the EPP web site.
