Another First for Hermitage Genetics
NIGERIA - During May Hermitage Genetics successfully completed their first export of breeding stock from Ireland to Nigeria for the Benue State Pig Project.The specialist consignment of 80 head of maternal line Large White and Landrace, along with terminal line Duroc will be used to produce crossbred females for movement to the villages where they will be mated with Duroc semen to produce the fattening pigs.
The breeding stock travelled first by road to Schipol Airport, Amsterdam and then were transferred to specially designed crates for the flight to Abuja.
Hermitage are currently in further discussions with the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science with regard to supplying the genetic support for further such projects.
