EU Pig Prices: Still Only Little Movement in Markets

EU - There still is only little movement on the EU slaughter pig market. In almost all countries, the same scene is found: The quantities of pigs mature for slaughter fall far below last year’s figures.

The quantities available are well demanded. Yet, there is little impetus on the European domestic markets in particular in meat trade. Exports towards third countries are described to be widely normal.

The Danish business with Russia, South Korea and Japan is said to be satisfactory.

The Chinese market is thought to be a gleam of hope in the export business, absorbing large quantities of goods.

Other than in the rest of Europe, the market in Great Britain appears to be quite friendly.

Another 4 cents’ increase (to a converted EUR 1.79 per kg) is expected there, thus giving the target course for the other European countries.

Trend for the German market: The mood is brightening on the German market. Over the time around 1 May, barbecue meat traditionally is expected to be more vividly demanded. The weather forecasts are also well.

Many companies in the field of food retailing are distributing current handouts for this week’s barbecue meat sales. So, the further development of pig prices is expected to remain at least steady.
