EU Pig Prices: Quotations Still Getting Nowhere

EU - This current week, too, the European slaughter pig market is characterised by a steady price situation.

For eight weeks in a row, Germany has not experienced any changes in prices. In the neighbouring countries, such as Denmark, the Netherlands and Austria, demand is also insufficient for resulting in price increases. In Spain, the price stabilised on a high level. There, exceptionally scarce domestic supply meets steady demand.

Prices that are clearly going down are observed in France alone. The French market observers state that the price decline will only be stopped when the prices have reached the same level as have those of the other major European pig producers. Currently, the French quotation is still 5 cents above the German quotation. A slight correction of prices by 1 cent is reported from Belgium.

Trend for the German market: At the start of this week, demand is still brisk for pigs on the part of the slaughter companies, as it has been over the past weeks. With the weather forecast being good at the moment, there is hope that domestic demand will revive and necessary price increases be enforceable again this way.
