EU Pig Prices: Steady Price Situation Continues
EU - On the major European pig markets, the price situation continues to be steady. In Germany, Austria and Denmark, the quotations remain unchanged. Prices went up slightly in the Netherlands (plus one cent), in Great Britain (plus two cents) and in Sweden (plus two cents).
In Germany and Austria, increasing quotations were also hoped for because demand for live pigs had been very brisk the previous week. Unfortunately, the slaughter companies complain about the meat business going satisfactorily at best.
The prices are particularly under pressure for processed meat. Marginal price reductions had to be conceded on by the producers in France (minus two cents), Italy (minus three cents) and in Spain (minus 0.5 cents). There, too, the domestic meat business is regarded as slowing the prices down, whereas export is said to support increasing prices.
With 8 December being a public holiday in Spain, Italy and Austria, some pressure is most likely to be exerted on the prices in these three countries this week.
Trend for the German market: The good demand for live pigs is unbroken on the market. Currently, there is no reason to expect a negative trend reversal, so the quotation is anticipated to remain steady at the very least.
