Swedish Production Down

SWEDEN - From April to June, 4.2 per cent fewer pigs were sent to slaughter in Sweden, compared to a 2.2 per cent growth in the first three months of the year.

The National Pig Asociation in the UK said that the decrease in the second quarter has been attributed to lack of profitability in Swedish pig production.

Earlier this year Swedish pig producers said their higher welfare costs made it impossible to compete with European Union prices.
