EU Pig Prices: Little Fluctuation Noted
EU - In almost all European countries, the slaughter pig prices remain on last week’s level this week.As a whole, the markets appear in a well-balanced and steady way. While the price went up by 1 cent in the Netherlands, Great Britain had to cope with a 3 cents’ price decrease. This way, however, Great Britain still ranks second behind Spain, where they are currently missing the usual summer’s price increase. Slaughter weights continue to be clearly declining in Spain, yet this is not enough to make prices rise.
From the producers’ point of view, the price development was a disappointing issue in Germany. While until Thursday afternoon the prices had been expected to rise, bad mood was spread by the slaughter companies as from Thursday afternoon, which was said to have been caused by insufficient meat sales. In the course of this, the slaughter companies put much pressure on the producers. In the end, this brought about unchanged prices, by which some of the neighbouring countries were certainly influenced, too.
Trend for the German market: The pig keepers responded in a very disappointed way to last Friday’s unchanged prices. The question remains to be answered over the next few days whether or not the tailwind is enough to make quotations go up.
