EU Pig Prices: Markets Steady after Public Holidays
EU - On a nationwide basis, the European slaughter pig market proves to be on an exceptionally steady level. With a few exceptions, the quotations are moving sidewards. The prevailing mood remains positive, yet as a result of a day of slaughter missing over Whitsun, there is no more room left to have prices increase. The German quotation continues to be trend setting. Nevertheless, Denmark reported a noticeable plus, thus outpacing Germany and France in the European price structure. In Spain, a downward movement was rung in once again. The French corrected quotation went down by a marginal 0.7 cents.
During the first quarter of 2011, the Spanish pork production went up by 4 per cent altogether. One of the reasons for that is that as many as 10.6 million more pigs (equal to 3.6 per cent) were then slaughtered than were during the same period last year. On top of that, the average slaughter weights went up from 87.3 to 87.7 kg, reports the "Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft" (AMI; agricultural market informational association). According to a report published by the Ukrainian veterinary service, the compulsory additional declaration as to the dioxin texting is no longer needed for exporting of German pork into the Ukraine. Pork imports from Germany had caved in by as much as 40 percent in the Ukraine over the first quarter of 2011.
Trend for the German market: The quantities of pigs mature for slaughter is presently covering the slaughter companies’ demand. Backlog supply has not created over the missing day of slaughter. With a view to the new quotation, a new sideward movement is looming altogether.
