According to a report on CBC News , the alarm was raised when workers at the Outlook Pork pig farm noticed smoke coming from a stack on the large main barn.

The fire spread and, by the time it could be put out, two of the barn's six wings had been completely destroyed.

Many of the 1,000 surviving animals are pregnant sows and piglets.

The Taber Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
