Last year, Australia imported 13 per cent more bacon from Denmark, reports ABC.

Nearly three-quarters of the bacon sold in Australia now comes from Denmark, and local farmers say it's eating away at their profits.

NSW pig farmer Malcolm Gett expects many farmers to quit the industry this year as a result.

"It appears that every year, the imports just keep on getting larger. I can also see a lot more local producers closing their doors in 2011."
