Tanzania Reports African Swine Fever Outbreak

TANZANIA - Tanzania has reported an outbreak of Afrcan swine fever at a village called Kyela in Mbeya.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE)received an immediate notification yesterday, 8 December.

The report states that the affected population comprises free-range pigs. A total of 13854 pigs were found susceptible, out of which 308 cases were identified. Out of the 308 cases, there were 122 deaths. No animals were slaughtered or destroyed.

Illegal movement of animals has been determined as the main source of the ASF outbreak.
