The DDGS Feed Formulation Workshop was conducted jointly by the Animal Technology Institute, Taiwan Feed Industry Association and the US Grains Council and held in Taichung City and Tainan City. USGC Consultant Dr Simon Chen introduced the new methods of using US DDGS, feed formulation techniques, and the economic advantages of increasing the inclusion of DDGS in their animal feed.

“Some hog and poultry producers are still not using DDGS or are using at low inclusion rates. These workshops will undoubtedly help increase the inclusion rates of DDGS in animal feeds and encourage more imports of DDGS from the United States,“ said Clover Chang, USGC director in Taiwan.

Taiwan imported 141,759 metric tons of DDGS with a 98 per cent US market share so far this calendar year through September. The Council estimates Taiwan will import approximately 220,000 tons of DDGS in 2010.

Matthew Clark, regional director of Southeast Asia Feed Management Systems, introduced the new Brill 2.0 Feed Formulation Software, an updated computer program for formulating feeds. Participants included nutritionists in charge of feed formulation for feed mill operations and on-farm feed mixers, while other participants are in charge of purchasing raw materials for feed mills. Use of this new technology will help participants make better business decisions when formulating feed rations and purchasing feed grains.
