Ernest Sanford, DVM, Dip Path, Diplomate ACVP, Chair of the Organizing Committee for IPVS 2010, writes:

We are delighted to be hosting the 21st International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) Congress in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on 18 to 21 July 2010, and we invite each and every one of our colleagues worldwide to join us.

The theme of IPVS 2010 is Sharing Ideas – Advancing Pig Health. This 21st IPVS Congress will build on the successes of previous IPVS Congresses while maintaining the flexibility to provide current and future opportunities for swine veterinarians and researchers globally. The Organizing Committee is arranging a scientific program that incorporates the latest information on new and old diseases, pig production, nutrition, reproduction, food safety, animal welfare, antimicrobial resistance and many other contemporary and emerging topics. While addressing these topics, the congress will also focus on providing solutions to emerging diseases like pandemic H1N1 Influenza A virus, and the other significant challenges facing the swine industry.

Vancouver, located on the west coast of Canada, is equidistant from Europe and Asia and is a destination that will enhance the international feeling of our Congress. It is readily accessible from all major cities throughout North and South America. The Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre is located right on the water overlooking the North Shore Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. All of the hotels that we have reserved are within walking distance of the Convention Centre.

Vancouver is a stunningly beautiful, multi-cultural city that is consistently voted one of the world's most liveable cities. The city has a spectacular setting bounded by the Pacific Ocean and coastal mountains. As the site for the 2010 Winter Olympics there will be worldwide attention on the city in advance of our meeting and an atmosphere of celebration and discovery that lasts throughout the year. The Organizing Committee will be preparing a vibrant social programme that takes advantage of all that the city and surrounding area have to offer.

Once again, we are inviting all our colleagues worldwide to join us in Vancouver to renew old acquaintances and establish new friendships that will last well beyond our time together in Vancouver.
