EU Pig Prices: New Optimism Brings Wind of Change
EU - The knot finally seems to be cut on the European pigs-mature-for-slaughter market.A moderate price increase is recorded for many quotations in Europe. After having had the price not shift over nine weeks’ time, Germany now sets the looked-for sign, raising the quotation by 2 cents. The marketers wanting to indicate that there’s room for more still and the meat-processing industry desiring to be prepared for negotiating prices with the food retailers made this price increase be realisable. The Netherlands caught up by plus 3 cents. Price increases were observed in Spain, Belgium and Austria. Given firmer exchange rates, quotations are catching up in Poland and the Czech Republic.
Steady quotations are observed in Denmark, France and Ireland. In Sweden, the pigs-mature-for-slaughter price can be maintained, yet the corrected quotation even went up a little as a result of the fixed exchange rate. In Great Britain, it’s quite the opposite: As a result of low quantities on supply, the prices noticeably went up at good demand, but with the pound being weak the corrected quotation goes down visibly.
Trend: The market now finally being stimulated may be seen as a good sign for the weeks ahead. Yet, speaking of euphoria would be untimely at this point in time. Demand might be boosted through the Easter business.
