Volume 61 continues in the new A4 format and as a fully refereed journal. There are two important Danish Review articles, the first dealing with eradication of some respiratory and enteric diseases, where they have had a lot of experience setting up their SPF system and the second on interventions in reducing salmonellosis. Again, this is a very important problem following the recent EFSA report on salmonella prevalence in the EU.
In the Research Section there are papers on tulathromycin and its metaphylactic use, costs associated with sub-clinical ileitis, the diversity of recent isolates of PRRSV and the comparative activity of tylvalosin on the in-vitro replication of PRRSV.
In the Clinical Section there are case reports on reproductive performance and infertility in the UK, biotin and hoof defects in Ireland, a study on the prevalence of foot lesions and abnormal locomotion in pigs in the UK, and the effects of supplementing iron at weaning in fast growing pigs in Denmark. There is also a report on Ascaris suum and its impact on welfare and economic impact in finisher pigs.
Abstracts of the papers can be viewed on the Pig Journal website, together with order forms, reference request service details (£10/copy) and news and information.
