Aeger Kingma, a producer at Gunbower, in northern Victoria, says there has been a 50 per cent increase in cheap pork imports this year.

He says he has put off staff and is taking severe cost-cutting measures to stay afloat.

"We're down three-and-a-half staff members since the first of July, so we've stopped all essential maintenance, we dropped any expansion or refurbishment programs that we would normally do each year," he said.
