EU pig prices: Brisk sale at low price level
EU - On the European pigs-mature-for-slaughter-market, the prices continue to stabilise. Great demand is observed on the part of the slaughter companies, meeting declining supply. In view of the well-balanced market situation, quotations all over Europe tend to remain unchanged. The Italian market still is on the upswing, with ham-production running at full speed at present. Traditionally, increased quantities of overweight pigs of a live weight of 150 kg and more are therefore being exported towards Italy at the end of the year.
The price trend on the live-animals market is also being reflected in what happens on the meat market. Most of the parts are sold at steady prices. The Danish experts are being reported to have great interest in shoulder and neck, which goes for the spring time ahead. For such kind of business, private storage certainly is an interesting issue. About one third of the estimated 100 000 tons have already been ordered by Denmark, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands in particular.
Trend: Supply continues to be on a substantial level. Nevertheless, the hardest time of the year seems to be over and has obviously been coped with. The business is expected to noticeably be stimulated in Denmark before Christmas still.
