VIET NAM - In October the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 9.34 percent from last year, the biggest annual growth in nearly three years.

The GSO said food prices this month are nearly 16 percent higher from last October. Meat shortages caused by the out-break of avian flu and blue ear pig disease have contributed to increasing prices.

Housing and construction material prices jumped 11.72 percent over last October’s prices. Between the last quarter of the year being the peak construction season and property prices surging as investors use stock profits to buy land, the prices of property and construction materials are expected in continue their upward trend.
