AUSTRALIA - Pig farmers across South Australia are said to be facing ruin because of high grain prices.

The sow herd is predicted to drop 20 per cent next year.

South Australia Farmers Federation pork committee chairman Butch Moses says prices for feed grain are already at a premium with producers paying up to £162 a tonne.

Farmers are praying for significant rain this spring. Consumers have been warned to expect increased prices in the shops.
