The Commission said the situation with swine fever was very serious, especially in Romania, where outbreaks took place in the farms, whose meat production is intended for exports.

An EC report said that as many as 164 cases have been identified in individual farms in Romania in the first half of 2007, so the European Commission has decided to extend the restrictions which would have expired on September 30, 2007.
