Top international consultant at NY seminar

US - International pig industry consultant and renowned authority on outdoor production Keith Thornton will be visiting New York state during June and is heading up a key seminar in Waterloo on 20 June.

Keith, who is currently a consultant with the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI), will be visiting the area to certify pig producers that meet AWI standards.

The planned seminar will focus on the merits and possibilities of outdoor pig keeping in the US and other key aspect of today's pig business. He brings more than 40 years of international swine production experience to the farmers of New York.

Now resident in Des Moines, Iowa, Keith was formerly an independent, well-respected pig business adviser and author in the UK. He has been involved with pig production throughout the European community, Mexico, Australia, Canada, Chile, South Africa, Korea, Taiwan, Argentina, and the United States. He has worked with a number of leading pig industry organisations including he National Agricultural Centre at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, UK, Manorcros Consultants, Ltd., Pig Improvement Company, Ltd., SHUSA, Agri-Livestock Consultants, Ltd., Vakakis International, Pioneer-Hi-Bred International, and PIC, USA.

The seminar, sponsored by Certified Natural NY Cornell’s NWNY Dairy, Livestock, and Field Crops Team, will be held at 7.00pm on 20 June at Seneca County Cornell Co-operative Extension 308 Main Street Shop Centre Waterloo, New York 13165.
