New European Union legislation will come into force later this year requiring member countries to set targets for reducing salmonella on pig farms.

The conference will look at the results of work by the Veterinary Laboratories Agency and the BPEX/ZAP team over the past four years.

It will also highlight experience in Denmark – where they have been successfully combating the organism – and in Britain, with Meryl Ward of Ermine Farms in Lincolnshire giving her thoughts and experiences in controlling salmonella over the last couple of years.

Even if you’re in the ZAP 1 you must not be complacent, says ADAS. And weaner producers should not think it doesn’t affect them. ‘Your customers will be looking to you for assurances that the stock you supply does not bring problems with it.’

There will be a frank forum session with the speakers and several invited industry representatives. You will be able to put your questions to the experts and air your views to some of the top people in the field.

The conference is at Stoneleigh Park March 21st 2007
