CANADA - One expert suggests pork producers in Saskatchewan will be better off shipping their hogs to Brandon, Manitoba instead of to the north end of Saskatoon.

Maple Leaf Foods has decided against putting a new pork plant in the City of Bridges. The only place to ship Saskatchean hogs will be east. Producers say that will cost them five, or ten, dollars more per animal.

But hog market analyst Kevin Grier believes we will stay the lowest priced region in North American for producing hogs and that wil give the region an advantage.

The Maple Leaf Foods kill plant in Saskatoon is slated to close in the next three years.
